Who is John Bogle you say???
Mr. Bogle (77) is the founder, former CEO and former Chairman of Vanguard Group, Inc., one of the largest mutual fund companies in the world. As such, he has a keen sense of what works and what doesn't when it comes to where to place your money.
Since some of you may be interested in investing in mutual funds or are already invested in funds, you may like to know how Mr. Bogle has placed his bets. Vanguard is famous for having among the lowest expense funds in the industry.
His portfolio is currently split 60% in equities and 40% in bonds.
In his equity portion, he has 80% in Vanguard's Total Stock Market Index Fund (VTSMX), and 20% in several other Vanguard funds. These include Vanguard's Explorer (VEXPX - small-cap growth stocks), PRIMECAP (VPMCX - large-cap blend of growth and value stocks), Wellesley Income (VWINX - high-yielding stocks and bonds), Wellington (VWELX - stocks and bonds) and Windsor (VWNDX - large-cap value stocks).
In his bond portfolio, he has 50% in Vanguard's Total Bond Market Index Fund (VBMFX) and 50% in Vanguard's Intermediate Term Tax-Exempt Fund (VWITX).
